Is assisted dying safe?

I have been told that we shouldn't legalise assisted dying because it's 'unsafe'.  1 of the nearly 2000 assisted dying patients in Oregon didn't actually die.  He woke up after 72 hours with no adverse affects and later died of natural causes.  This is the 'evidence' of assisted dying being 'unsafe'.

If that's what you believe, then I have news for you.  Sometimes anaesthesia goes wrong.  Sometimes surgery goes wrong.  Sometimes chemotherapy goes wrong.  Should we stop doing these things?

I can't think of anything that never goes wrong, but I have no doubt the thing that goes badly more often than anything else is religion.
